Valen actually did not intend to become a Chinese Pop singer at first. She was more inclined towards classical music. However, after her graduation from her music school, a talent scout spotted her while she was singing in a pub. This launched her career as a pop singer. She feels that her singing style was due to her training in classical music.
In her 4th album, 日光機場, she composed both the lyrics and tune for the last song, 讓你走. It was also the first time she was the 製作人 for a song.
I presume members of her family are pretty close, as her manager was none other than her sister!
